Monster Mystery V1.2
Hey everybody, I just made a little patch for stuffs I want before Chapter 2! ^vv^ This is version 1.2! I wanted to focus on two things here: the new pushing mechanic and controller support (for non-xbox controllers). Though the former seems to be working, I unfortunately struggled a lot with the latter. Because of this, I've put a temporary workaround below the notes for anyone to use if their controller is still not working. I hope you understand and thank you for bearing with me as I continue to learn! xvvx
As always, if you save on this version, you cannot load the save on an earlier version (like 1.1)! And if you find your game bugged and unable to load your save data for whatever reason, you can restore a backup by going to C:\Users\yourName\AppData\LocalLow\Bayden\Monster Mystery and copying the saveAutoBackup.mmdata and renaming it as the save.mmdata instead of the corrupted save! ^vv^ Please reach out if you experience any problems, I'd love to fix them!
Monster Mystery V 1.2
Added:
- You can now push your allies! Hold down the Hotkey button (default F on keyboard, LB on xbox controller) while moving to push instead of swap
- You can now configure your controller's axes is they were (or you want them to be) inverted, or if they were not being picked up. (Highly recommended you reserve this to your D-Pad!)
Fixed:
- Fixed illegal diag. movement of allies in certain intances (hopefully for good this time!)
Tweaks:
- Attack/Talk bindings can also be used during dialog instead of just menu Confirm
- Hovering over Hotkey Btn in controls window changes the left panel to elborate on all its functions
- Controls window size increased through options while exploring (was hard to read)
- Removed a bunch of unused files from the program for now (that's why it's a smaller file size all of a sudden lol)
About Controllers:
Over quite a while and especially these last couple weeks, I've been trying my absolute hardest to get controller support to be fully operational (starting with the axis configuration I listed above). Long story short, no matter what I could do with tracking keybindings and axes, controllers are much more complicated than I thought, to a point that my testers' controllers (Nintendo Pro and Dualshock 4) would give the game upwards of 4 different inputs every time they pressed one button. ;vv; This is a problem I can't fix on the surface level using the rebinding system I have, and so my friends and I have done quite a bit of testing to make sure these werem't just bugs on my end. I hope I can learn how to fully support controllers for the future of the game and my projects going forward, but for now, please read the workaround below if you're interested in getting your controller to work with the game (if it's not already). Thank you so much for understanding ;vv;
Temporary Controller Workaround:
Third party tools can be used to (likely) support your controller. We found that if you have Steam and your controller has worked on a Steam game, you can add Monster Mystery as a non-Steam game to your library and play through Steam. You may have already heard about this method but I only just learned about it last week... Doing so launches Steam Input, basically an API Steam uses that lets games with controller support use as many different types of controllers as possible. For Nintendo Pro controllers and Dualshock controllers, this seems to work flawlessly for the time being, albeit you might need to rebind some of your buttons! There are likely other third-party tools that are available that work similarly, though I don't know that much about others! I'm glad to see this at least works for the time being and I hope it works for you in the meantime if you really didn't want to play with keyboard ^vv^;
Thank you again for understanding, I was saddened I couldn't work all this out for now but I look forward to the future where I may learn more about this. For now though I'd like to move onto finally getting more content out for the game in the meantime while I continue to learn more about game development! >vv< I hope you enjoy playing and seeing my progress as we work toward chapter 2, and as always you can find where I post sneak-peaks, my thoughts, and my art at the links on the game page! Please reach out on any of those sites if you'd like to recommend or report something (or just wanna let me know how you feel) as well! See you soon ^vv^/
